I have forgotten my password

Your NemID password can consist of either 4 digits or 6 characters consisting of a combination of numbers and letter.

A 4 digit password is characterised by:

  • It consists of 4 digits
  • It does not consist of 4 identical digits
  • It does not consist of a sequence of numbers such as 1234 or 5678
  • It is not a part of your CPR-number

A 6-character NemID password it is characterised by:

  • It is between 6 and 40 characters
  • It contains both letters and numbers
  • It does not contain certain special characters, such as æ, ø, å
  • It does not contain the same character four times in a row
  • It does not begin or end with a blank character
  • It does not contain your CPR-number or NemID-number
  • It does not matter if you use uppercase or lowercase letters
  • It might contain one of the special characters that are allowed: { }! # " $ ’ % ^ & , * ( ) _ + - = : ; ? . and @.

I have to block my password

If you know or suspect that someone is misusing your NemID, you must immediately block your password. You must also change your password if there is someone other than yourself who knows it.

Remember to never disclose your password.

My temporary password has expired

If your temporary password has expired, you must order a new temporary password.

You will receive the temporary password within 3-5 business days.

If you need it urgently, you can attend personally at the Citizen Service Center (borgerservice). In case of personal attendance at the Citizen Service Center (borgerservice), remember to bring a valid ID.

Please note that your NemID will be blocked when you order a new password.

I have lost my code card

If you have lost your code card, you need to revoke it in order to prevent others from using it.

To revoke your code card you log on with your NemID user ID and password.

When your active code card has been revoked you can order a new code card in Self-service. You must identify yourself using your Danish passport or driving licence.

The code card will be sent by post. If you need it right away you can collect a new code card at citizen service centre or contact your bank.

I would like to use my NemID on sites other than online banking

If you want to use NemID for more than online banking, on public websites for instance, you must order a public digital signature for your NemID.

Order using a passport or driver´s license

Log on with the NemID that you want the public digital signature attached to.

During the process you will be asked if you want to connect the two NemID’s. Say yes to this, in order to use the same username, password and code card for both online banking and other services.

Don’t have a passport or driver´s license?

You can order a public signature at the Citizen Service Center (borgerservice). In case of personal attendance at the Citizen Service Center (borgerservice), remember to bring a valid photo ID.

I have to activate my NemID

When activating your NemID you need three things:

  • Your NemID-number, which you will find in your welcoming letter
  • Your temporary password, which you have received by mail or in a text message
  • Your code card, which you will find in your welcoming letter

You have 10 minutes to complete activation.

If you have ordered NemID for online banking

If you have ordered NemID through your bank, you must activate your NemID through online banking.

If you need help, contact your bank.

I cannot remember my user-id

Your user ID can be:

  • Your NemID number which you can find in your welcoming letter
  • Your CPR number
  • Your self-chosen NemID user ID

You cannot use your CPR number the first time you activate your NemID.

I am helping another person with their NemID

We cannot help you if you contact us without the other person being physically present.

The reason for this is that a NemID is strictly personal.

Neither a cohabitant, parent, child, neighbor nor accountant may access another person's code card, NemID number or password.

If you need to help someone else with their NemID, you need a power of attorney to log on with your own NemID. You must contact the bank or the provider of the service you want to access to.

I have trouble logging on

Check the operating status to see if you are affected by a general error.

If you are trying to log on to a public or private service, check if you can log on self-service with your NemID.

If you can log on to self-service this means there is an error on the website in question.

If it is a matter of logging on to your bank, please contact your bank.

We can only assist you with the use of your NemID in connection with online banking.

I receive an error message when I log on with my NemID

If you receive an error message when logging on a website that your signature has expired or your certificate has expired, you must renew your NemID.

You renew your NemID the same way you ordered a public digital signature for your NemID.

If you have a code token, use your code card to renew your public digital signature for your NemID.

I suspect someone is misusing my code card

You must revoke your code card if you:

  • Have lost your code card
  • Suspect someone has access to your code card
  • Otherwise suspect misuse

To revoke your code card you log on with your NemID user ID and password.

There is not automatically send a new code card.

When you have revoked your active code card you have to order a new one yourself.

If you have an active code card you can revoke this in Self-service, if you suspect misuse of your NemID. Afterwards you can order a new code card.

My code cards

To order a new code card online you must identify yourself using your Danish passport or driving licence.

I want to order an extra code card

You can order extra code cards, e.g. if you are travelling for a longer period of time. It is possible to order three extra code cards at a time.
